Biography
Swedish singer, clarinetist, saxophonist, songwriter, and entertainer, born on November 22, 1934 in Västra Skrävlinge, Malmö, Skåne, and died on January 18, 2006 in San Agustin, Gran Canaria, Province of Las Palmas, Spain. Östen Warnerbring started his first jazz club together with a friend in Malmö. It was called the [b]12th Street Club[/b]. He played the saxophone and clarinet there, but also proved to be a singer of class, which led to him often being referred to as [b]'Östen med rösten'[/b] (Östen with the voice). In 1951, he made his recording debut with [url=https://www.discogs.com/release/11597973-Östen-Warnerbrings-Kvartett-Sweet-Lorraine?redirected=true]Östen Warnerbrings Kvartett[/url]. In 1952, he began his career as a professional musician and had the opportunity to perform for soldiers in Southern Germany with a band called [a7715231]. After his professional debut, Warnerbring then sang with various orchestras in Malmö and Helsingborg. Alongside music, he attempted to secure a regular job. He was a messenger at the newspaper Sydsvenska Dagbladet, worked in the record department at EPA Södergatan in Malmö, and tried his fortune as an insurance salesman at Skandia. He was also a recording manager at the record company [l2362651], which released on the label [l109599], and a journalist at the newspaper Skånska Dagbladet. In the mid-1950s, Östen Warnerbring was discovered by [a1371065] and subsequently had the opportunity to perform at the entertainment venue [l337454] in Stockholm. Until 1963, Warnerbring led his own dance orchestra. He became associated with [a320176]'s record company, [l345908], which published music under the [l51529] label. He also toured Sweden with the talent competition [b]'Flugan,'[/b] organized by the Swedish magazine [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veckorevyn]Veckorevyn[/url], alongside other well-known Swedish entertainers of the time such as [a1905791] and [a1912176]. Östen Warnerbring's significant breakthrough as a solo artist came with the Swedish version of the song [b]Red Roses for a Blue Lady[/b], translated by [a1886388], which was released on [r2828988] in 1965. The same year marked the release of his debut album, [m2028511]. At the end of the 1960s, Warnerbring was at the height of his career, performing several acclaimed cabaret shows at [l353263] and [l405191]. He had participated in [l637572] multiple times and had won as a solo artist in 1967. During the 1970s, he sought new musical paths and drifted further and further away from the schlager music industry. Instead, he began to focus on songs and set music to the poetry of well-known Swedish poets such as [a836490], [a3755652], [a650776], and [a877886]. On the album [m1000662], he interpreted poems by poets from Skåne. In 1979, he was the host of a television program on [l204167], his own jazz series titled [b]'I morgon e de lörda'[/b] (Tomorrow it is Saturday). During that time, he also, together with [a1412413], made the audience laugh in a series of nightclub shows, and their comedic dance duo, [a7928118], became popular both in Sweden and Denmark. After a heart attack in 1985, Östen Warnerbring slightly reduced his pace and was no longer seen as frequently on stage. Twelve years later, in 1997, he was compelled to undergo an emergency bypass surgery due to further heart issues. Östen Warnerbring's last album, [r13230223], was released in 2003. His last performance took place in the Canary Islands, where he entertained tourists at the Swedish-owned hotel Beach Club. He managed to complete two of several planned performances before being found dead in his hotel room at Hotel Isabel Maria in San Agustin on the Spanish holiday island of Gran Canaria on January 18, 2006.
