Russian-born American classical pianist and composer. Born: 1st October 1903 Kiev, Russian Empire. Died: 5th November 1989 New York City, New York, USA. Settled in the U.S. in 1939 and became an American citizen in 1944. Husband of [a=Wanda Toscanini Horowitz] (m. 1933), with whom he had a daughter Sonia (b. 1934 – d. 1975). During his career, Horowitz retired from public performances four times. Horowitz won 25 Grammy Awards and 5 Grammy Hall of Fame Awards. He was awarded the President's Medal of Freedom.
