Biography

Irish folk band active 1969-1998, an offshoot of [a=The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem]. In 1969, after Tommy Makem left the group to go solo, [a=Pat Clancy], [a=Tom Clancy (2)] and [a=Liam Clancy] recruited brother [a=Bobby Clancy] and continued as [a=The Clancy Brothers]. This lineup was accompanied by [a=Finbar Furey] and [a=Eddie Furey]. Bobby left the group in 1971 and was replaced by [a=Louis Killen], who recorded four albums with them. Liam and Louis left in 1976, and the group went on a brief hiatus. The band regrouped in 1977 with Pat, Tom, Bobby and nephew [a=Robbie O'Connell]. Liam rejoined the group in 1990, when Tom took ill (he died later that year). Liam and Robbie left in 1995. The group continued as a live unit of Pat and Bobby, joined by Bobby's son [a=Finbar Clancy] (and [a=Ed Dillon] for one tour) until Pat's death in 1998, which brought the group to an end. Bobby, Finbar & Ed continued to tour as "The Clancys" though to Bobby's death in 2002.
