Biography

They started recording in 1967. Later they changed their name to [a=The Victors] with George Blake replacing Leroy Fischer. [a=Clifford Morrison] was leading the band. The Bassies recorded with producers like [a=Sonia Pottinger], [a=Clement "Coxsone" Dodd] and [a=Arthur "Duke" Reid]. All known recording happened between 1967-1969. They scored one big hit "Big Mistake" which originally got released on [Link]. Further known recordings are "You can't stop me" and "Things A Come Up To Bump" for [a=Clement "Coxsone" Dodd] in 1967, and on at least one [a=Soul Vendors] back them up, so presumably they do on all [l=Studio One] recordings. One of their most famous songs ist their version of "River Jordan", in which the trio is eloquently talking about biblical "facts", treating the river, on which they think that big ships can sail (sure, on the Dead Sea), as a girl which it counts to win. All recordings made in 1969 for [a=Sonia Pottinger] are credited to [a577533]. Afterwards they got soon forgotten.
