Biography
Telomere is an American ambient/space music project, established in the late nineties by Christopher MacDonald from Redwood City, California. Most of the music is composed and recorded entirely on Serge Modular synthesizer (a custom-built STS (Sound Transform Systems) module), as well as Oberheim OB-8, Roland Jupiter 4, Roland Jupiter 8 and other analog synthesizers. As a teenager, MacDonald was playing a guitar with punk/new wave/rockabilly band. In the early eighties, he heard [a=Michael Stearns]’ Planetary Unfolding on a local college radio station, which left a huge impression and exposed him to a completely new world of sound. He soon discovered other ambient and electronic musicians, such as [a=Brian Eno], [a=Jean-Michel Jarre], [a=Klaus Schulze], [a=Robert Fripp], [a=Vangelis] (with [Link] album being a particularly big influence), and got interested in synthesizers. In 1998, Christopher MacDonald self-released his debut [Link] album, which was entirely recorded on Serge Modular (except a few field recordings). The album was broadcasted on ‘Hearts of Space,’ WXPN [l=Star's End], and other ambient radio stations, and very well received by critics.
