Biography
Successor of [a=Jefferson Starship]. Following Jefferson Starship founder [a=Paul Kantner]'s departure, a 1984 legal settlement prohibited the use of the Jefferson Starship name unless all original members agreed to it. The remaining members shortened the name to "Starship," and, fronted by vocalist [a=Grace Slick], the band reached its popular peak with the 1985 album "Knee Deep in the Hoopla." The album generated two #1 hits: "We Built This City" and "Sara". In 1987, "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" also reached #1. The following year, Slick left to join the reformed [a=Jefferson Airplane]. In 1990, after the "Cannibals" tour, final remaining original member Craig Chaquico left the band.
