Biography

American vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer. Born: 1 February 1948 in Buffalo, New York, USA. Died: 6 August 2004 in Burbank, California, USA (aged 56). Growing up in the Buffalo ghetto as the third oldest child in a family of eight, by age 14 he already had legal troubles. In 1964 James went AWOL from the Navy because it interfered with his music career, and he fled to Canada for a few years. His first band, formed in the 1960's with future [a=Steppenwolf] member [a=Nick St. Nicholas] was initially called the Sailor Boys, but soon changed their name to [a=The Mynah Birds]. He also formed the blues band The Main Line, and was singing and writing in [a=The Great White Cane]. In 1977 he formed the [a=Stone City Band]. His first album “Come Get It,” reached position #3 on the R&B charts, “You and I,” went gold in September and “Mary Jane," a barely-disguised hymn to marijuana, hit US R&B #3 in October 1977. He also helped launch the [a=Mary Jane Girls] in the mid-1980s. Rick James is also credited for establishing the “Punk Funk,” style. On the morning of August 6th, 2004, James was found dead in his Burbank, California home. He died from pulmonary and cardiac failure with his various health conditions of diabetes, stroke, a pacemaker and a heart attack.

LYRICS

(feat. Smokey Robinson)
Wind in your hair, sun on your skin
You're looking good, girl, all over again
Hey there, Miss Brown
I want you to know I love you

Brown as the sand, you're soft as the shore
You're leaving me hungry, I'm crying for more
Ooh, we, baby, girl, you're such a score
And I want you to know that, you know what, girl

I love you
I bet you didn't know that, girl
You didn't know that
I need you
Right now, baby, right now, baby
And I bet you didn't know that ebony eyes

Ooh...ooh...hoo...ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...
Ooh...hoo...hoo...ooh...hoo...ooh...ooh...

Lips soft and tender, ready to speak
Her voice says, ?I love you? {I love you} and it's making me weak
Hey there, little girl, may I just say I love you
Tell 'em how you feel, Rick

Love is the brown skin girl in my eyes
Think it's time that I told you, don't you realize
You're such a queen, woman, you're such a prize
And I want you to know that, you know what, girl

I love you
And I bet you didn't know that, girl
You didn't know that
I need you
Right now, baby, right now, baby
And I bet you didn't know that ebony eyes

I love you ebony eyes, oh, my
I need you, woman
I need you (Ooh...)
Oh, and I bet you didn't know that ebony eyes

I really love you (Ooh...ooh...), woman, I love you (Love you)
Ebony eyes (Ooh...), oh, my
I wanna say that I need you (Ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...), honey, I need you
And I bet you didn't know that ebony eyes

Ebony eyes (Woo...woo...ooh...woo...hoo...)
Ebony eyes, oh, my (Hoo...)
Ebony eyes (Hoo...hoo...hoo...)
Girl, and I bet you didn't know that ebony eyes

Love you (Love you, love you)
