Biography

American new wave band formed by songwriter Danny Elfman in 1979. The band emerged from a surrealist musical theatre troupe, The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, that Elfman had led since 1976 and written material for in the years previous. Oingo Boingo were known for their high energy live concerts and experimental music, which can be described as mixing rock, ska, pop, and world music. The band's body of work spanned 17 years, with various genre and line-up changes. As a rock band, Oingo Boingo started as a ska and punk-influenced new wave octet, achieving significant popularity in Southern California. During the mid-1980s, the band changed line-ups, and adopted a more pop-oriented style, until a significant genre change to alternative rock in 1994. At that point, the name was shortened to simply "Boingo" and the horn section was dropped. The band retired after a farewell tour in 1995, for which they reverted to the name Oingo Boingo and readopted the horn section. LYRICS

Who's goin down
Who's goin down - who's goin down
I ride my elevator
Through the shafts of your heart
When you climb aboard baby
There's no getting off

I'm a silent operator, won't you please take my hand?
I am so polite - I'm the elevator man

Friction and harmony - who's gonna ride with me?
I'm the elevator man

Who's going down who's comin with me
Who wants to take a chance
On a piece of abstract reality
It's only just a dance
Won't you come and ride with the elevator man
Who's goin down yeah - movin' slow without a sound

Who's going down - who's going down - who's going down
I said who's going down - who's going down - who's going down

Please pretty baby, won't you come to me?
Won't you let me be your Daddy?
Come sit here on my knee.
Come tell your Sugar Daddy all of your fears
Cry for me darling
Let me taste your tears
As they roll down your face and on to the sand
We're going down together
I'm the elevator man

Now we're moving slow without a sound
Going up and going down
Take an intermission
While the bird is in the hand
It's worth two in the bush, so give yourself a push

I said who's going down - who's going down - who's going down

Say goodbye to hate, goodbye to love
Goodbye to the world that you used to know above
Say goodbye to your momma, and your daddy too
We're going to a place that you never even knew

Now we're moving slow without a sound
Going up and going down
Take an intermission
While the bird is in the hand
It's worth two in the bush, so give yourself a push

You wanna take a ride with the elevator man?
Friction and harmony, who's gonna ride with me?
Far across the ocean on a floating bed of sand
Eyes towards the empty skies
Searchin' for the big surprise
Who's gonna ride with the elevator man?

Who's going down - who's going down - who's going down

So Who's going down - who's going down - who's going down

Who's going down - who's going down - who's going down

So Who's going down?
