It is intensely emotional, melodically deranged, and energy-driven. "We really like to get the crowd moving and feeling our message," says bassist Lee March. "And we love to put a lot of intricate pieces into our music, but everything is just about the feeling, the sick emotion that makes me want to cry. We’re not trying to take the spotlight away from others. We just want to write good songs and wake people up to something new, something positive." From the sickeningly undeniable hum of Anti-Vanity, one of the most recent tracks to the more mellow & somber mood of the band's Savior, [minus]'s music embodies such emotions as love, anger, and confusion. The lyrics are alway honest. "I like to write lyrics that are vague enough so everyone can interpret them in their own way," says vocalist Jordan Williams. "We seem to feed off our crowd. I feel good knowing we made a difference to just one person who hears our music. I've always put my heart and soul into it and I want people to be able to relate," says Lee. So when people want to know what [minus] is all about, It's an emotion, not an image; a love for the music and the hardcore lifestyle. It's about having your head in the clouds, yet still keeping your feet on the ground." (Band bio from their Archived website) [Minus] was a Post Hardcore/Alt Metal band from Atlanta, GA, where vocalist Jordan Williams and bassist Lee March met as middle schoolers. The duo formed after jamming with guitarist Dustin and drummer Matt, and was soon struggling for gigs in the competitive Atlanta club and house party scene. Internet exposure led to a performance (alongside another young group, Incubus) on the short-lived TV show Farmclub. There they attracted the attention of super-producer [a252124] (At The Drive-In, Slipknot) and [a289227]/[a938813] vocalist, [a539770]. Robinson hand-picked them to win an opportunity to record with him in a Shoutweb.com demo contest. [a539770] lent guest vocals to the band's emotional metal epic, "Hesitant And Polite". It was also around this point that a threat of legal action persuaded Minus to add a period and "Driver" to its name. The newly christened [minus.driver] was then snapped up by Universal in November 2002 and promptly sent to Los Angeles where the group recorded a five-song EP, A Message for You, which was released in August 2003 and showcased the band's surging blend of post-hardcore dynamics.
