Biography
Los Brujos (The Warlocks) began as a group of friends on the neighborhood of Turdera, Buenos Aires. With [a=Gabo Manelli] on bass, [a=Quique Ilid] on drums, [a=Gabriel Guerrisi], [a=Fabio Rey Pastrello] on electric guitars, and [a=Alejandro Alaci], [a=Ricky Rua] and Morticia Flowers (Gabriela Kowalckzuk) on vocals. Manelli and Kowalckzuk leaving the band in the early stages, the former being replaced on bass by [a=Sergio Moreno]. They included many elements in their music like Hip-Hop, Trash, Funk, Rap and heavy metal. Though the core of their sound was their own genre of music, known as "beatcore", a mix of hardcore-punk riffs with beat elements and lyrics, creating a tongue-in-cheek, aggressive yet chirpy sound. They released their first album, Fin de Semana Salvaje (Wild weekend) on 1991. Produced by [a=Daniel Melero] in [l=Estudios Aguilar]. Characterized for their spontaneity, the songs were recorded on their first take and according to the group, it was not made with the mentality of making an album. On 1992 they opened the show for Nirvana at estadio Velez. It's rumored that [a=Kurt Cobain] took inspiration for his song's riff, Very Ape, from the band's hit song Kanishka. On 1993 they released San Cipriano (Saint Cipriano), also produced by Melero. The album sold 20000 copies and was themed around horror and the paranormal. They began the Cannibal Tour, touring around 30 cities around the country. Their third album, Guerra De Nervios (Nerve War) was made on 1995 with over 400 hours of production, with participation of Melero, [a=Gustavo Cerati] and members of [a=Juana La Loca]. The album contained themes related to Sci-Fi movies. The stress that came from the production of this album tired the band and they eventually disbanded on 1998. Together they released 3 albums. The band was also the first Argentine group to start their own website. On 2014, members of the group found previously unreleased recordings they made on 1998, with the group's original bassist [a=Gabriel Manelli], this prompted them to reunite again with Gregorio Martínez on bass and Rudie Martínez on Synths. They are now preparing to record a new album. On 2015 they released the single Beat Hit and later the album Pong!. On July 2016, Ricky Rua passed away.
