Biography
Lords of the Underground is a hip-hop trio from Newark, New Jersey, that rose to prominence in the early 1990s. The group consists of [a=Dupré Kelly] aka [a=DoItAll], [a=Al'Terik Wardrick] aka [a=Mr. Funke], and [a=Bruce Colston] aka [a=DJ Lord Jazz]. They gained recognition with their debut album, Here Come the Lords (1993), produced by [a=Marley Marl] and [a=K-Def] and featuring hits like Chief Rocka and Funky Child, which became underground hip-hop anthems. Their follow-up album, Keepers of the Funk (1994), solidified their status with tracks like Tic Toc. Lords of the Underground became known for their high-energy delivery, raw lyricism, and jazz-infused production, which helped define the East Coast hip-hop sound of the era. Though their mainstream success declined in the late ‘90s, they remained active in the underground scene, periodically releasing new music and performing worldwide. Beyond music, [a=Dupré Kelly] aka [a=DoItAll] has been involved in politics, becoming a councilman in Newark, while DJ Lord Jazz and Mr. Funke have continued to work in production and DJing.
