Biography

Born April 11, 1966 in Rochdale, Lancashire, United Kingdom. British female vocalist whose 1989 debut album 'Affection' spawned pop and club hits such as 'All Around The World' and 'People Hold On'. 1991's 'Real Love' was another success. The singer enjoyed success on the British pop charts as well as the U.S. R&B charts well into the nineties, scoring a #1 hit on the latter with 'All Woman' and continues to record and perform well beyond the millennium. The career of Stansfield starts already in 1980, in the then successful TV casting show "Search for a Star". She wins the show's contest and starts her career as singer and TV presenter in the age of 14. In her TV show "Razzmtazz", she meets other young stars, for instance the young [a721977]. After problems to stay on the ground due to this early success, she quits the TV show and founds her first band [a131788] together with schoolmates [a49715] and [a1191285]. The band did not manage to be successful and splits up in 1988. But her former bandmates continue to work as producers and songwriters in production studios. They meet [a946] in a collaboration and by chance, the UK electronic duo connects with Lisa as a feature vocalist. This leads in consequence to her successful solo career, which is accompanied by the production and songwriting activity by her two former bandmates for her solo work. Andy leaves the trio around 1993. [a49715], who is in relationship with Lisa for the last years, marries her in 1998. She is married to schoolmate [a49715], with who she recorded her first demo tape.

LYRICS

He's home again from another day
She smiles at him as he walks through the door
She wonders if it will be okay
It's hard for her when he doesn't respond
He says babe you look a mess
You look dowdy in that dress
It's just not like it used to be
Then she says...

I may not be a lady
But I'm All Woman
From Monday to Sunday I work harder than you know
I'm no classy lady
But I'm All Woman
And the woman needs a little love to make her strong
You're not the only one

She stands there and lets the tears flow
Tears that she's been holding back so long
She wonders where did all the loving go
The love they used to share when they were strong

She says yes I look a mess
But I don't love you any less
I thought you always thought enough of me
To always be impressed

I may not be a lady
But I'm All Woman
From Monday to Sunday I work my fingers to the bone
I'm no classy lady
But I'm All Woman
This woman needs a little love to make her strong
You're not the only one

He holds her and hangs his head in shame
He doesn't see her like he used to do
He's too wrapped up in working for his pay
He hasn't seen the pain he's put her through

Attention that he paid
Just vanished in the haze
He remembers how it used to be
When he used to say

You'll always be a lady
Cause You're All Woman
From Monday to Sunday I love you much more than you know
You're a classy lady
Cause You're All Woman
This woman needs a loving man to keep her warm

You're the only one
You're a classy lady
Cause You're All Woman

So sweet the love that used to be
So sweet the love that used to be

We can be sweet again
