Biography

Laurel Aitken (born April 22, 1927, Cuba - died July 17, 2005) was a Cuban-born Jamaican singer and one of the pioneers of Jamaican ska music. He moved to Jamaica with his family in 1938. In the 1950's, he became one of Jamaica's first recording artists, standing on the edge between r'n'b, boogie and ska. In 1960, Aitken moved to the UK, where he recorded a number of hit records for [l43478] label before returning to Jamaica in 1963. Shortly after he returned to England permanently and continued to play with various ska bands until his death.

LYRICS

Take me walking in the park
Through all the people on the weekends
Try to keep me on my feet
With all your smoking, I can't see straight
Oh, how do I know if
You're around 'till the end then
Maybe life is better when you're around

We're going in the south coast, I know
We're going to a future by the sea
I know that I'm too young to say
I don't think that I'm too young to dream
Before this time, you say you're mine
But living life, oh yeah we're living it
Go all the way, to the southern bays
Just living life, oh yeah we're living it

Hold my head in your hands
As the leaves change on the pavement
Fall against the kitchen walls
Will you turn the light off, honey?
Close the doors

Oh now, I can feel you underneath, in between the bed sheets
Is life better when I'm around?

We're going in the south coast, I know
We're going to a future by the sea
I know that I'm too young to say
I don't think that I'm too young to dream
Before this time, you say you're mine
But living life, oh yeah we're living it
Go all the way, to the southern bays
Just living life, oh yeah we're living it

I don't really know what it is
Sitting on the side of the streets
Come down so baby we can sit on the coast
Never really known how to lay low
And maybe we can do it again
Counting down the days, reading in between
To loving you and love you again
Take it slow but I know

We're going in the south coast, I know
We're going to a future by the sea
I know that I'm too young to say
I don't think that I'm too young to dream
Before this time, you say you're mine
Just living life, oh yeah we're living it
Go all the way, to the southern bays
Just living life, oh yeah we're living it
