Biography
American trumpeter/musician, bandleader, arranger and songwriter. Born: August 17, 1909 in Brooklyn, New York. Died: May 2, 1985 in Tucson, Arizona. Besides the trumpet, he also played the trombone, and clarinet. As a songwriter he charted sixteen times between 1937 and 1959 in the U.S. including six top 10 songs and two #1 singles. The #1 songs were " Satan Takes a Holiday" by Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra in 1937 and "My Reverie" by him and his orchestra in 1938. The song "My Reverie" (co-written by Claude Debussy) charted three additional times in 1938 by other artists. He also wrote "The Dipsy Doodle", which hit #2 in 1938 by Russ Morgan and His Orchestra. He also arranged many charted songs as well. Clinton and his orchestra charted thirty-eight times between 1937 and 1948, four by songs Larry wrote/co-wrote. Four of the band's songs hit #1: "Cry, Baby, Cry", "Heart and Soul" and "My Reverie" in 1938 and "Deep Purple" in 1939. Twenty in all made the top 10.
