Kirsty MacColl (born on October 10, 1959 in Croydon, South London, UK - died December 18, 2000 in Cozumel, Mexico) was a singer-songwriter from England, UK. She was the daughter of folk singer [a615404] and dancer Jean Newlove, and the sister of [a417669] and half-sister to [a281142], [a257511] (of [a171150]) and [a353818] (of [a281126]). Aunt of [a424408] (of [a1103990]). After a brief stint in 1978 with her first band [a1459785], she went solo and scored a hit with the single There's A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis in 1981. In 1984, she married producer [a50809] and had two children [a2951664] (manager of [a1626845]) and [a7245766]. Kirsty died whilst swimming with her children in Cozumel, Mexico after being hit by a speedboat which had crossed into an area restricted to swimmers only. Her final album Tropical Brainstorm was released posthumously, in early 2001.
