Biography

American actress, singer, and recording artist. Born September 26, 1926, in Santa Rosa, California, USA. Died October 18, 2000, in Encino (Los Angeles), California, USA (age 74). London started her career as an actress in the 1940s. She married actor [a=Jack Webb] (married July 16, 1947; divorced December 2, 1954) and went into semi-retirement, doing a few films and even taking a break between 1951-1955. After her divorce, she became a jazz/pop singer, managed and groomed by jazz musician/actor [a=Bobby Troup] (whom she married December 31, 1959). She left her film career to concentrate on her full-time singing career. She scored a hit song, "Cry Me a River," released on [l=Liberty] Records in 1955, and became known as "the Liberty Girl." Billboard Magazine named her the most popular female vocalist for 1955, 1956 and 1957. She recorded over 30 albums of jazz and pop standards, with her last studio album in 1969. London also starred in the TV hit series Emergency! for 126 episodes between 1972 and 1978 as RN Dixie McCall, alongside her husband Bobby Troup, who played Dr. Joe Early. Some sources have given her birth name as "Gayle Peck," "Nancy Peck," "Nancy Gayle" or "Nancy Gayle Peck."

LYRICS

Now you say you're lonely
You cry the long night through
Well you can cry me a river
Cry me a river
I cried a river over you
Now you say you're sorry
For being so untrue
Well you can cry me a river
Cry me a river
I cried a river over you

You drove me, nearly drove me out of my head
While you never shared a tear
Remember, I remember all that you said
Told me love was true
Told me you were through with me

And now you say you love me
Well, just to prove you do
Come on and cry me a river
Cry me a river
I cried a river over you
