Joe Sunseri (17 December, 1952) is a Grammy Award winning musician (Gatemouth Brown’s “Allright Again!”) and music journalist. In the 1970s he worked in Nevada hotel orchestras in Las Vegas, Reno and Lake Tahoe performing with Frank Sinatra, Bonnie Raitt, Tony Bennett, Cher, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Ella Fitzgerald, Brook Benton, Billy Eckstein, Teddy Pendergrass, Donna Summer, Shirley MacLaine, Doc Severinsen, Jack Sheldon, George Burns, George Carlin, Merv Griffin Orchestra (TV Show), Don Covay, Ed Shaughnessy, Bobbie Gentry, Louis Bellson, Suzanne Sommers, Larry Storch, Ben E King, Roy Clark, Barbara Mandrell, The Oak Ridge Boys, Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdink, Joel Gray, Helen Reddy, Bette Midler, Ginger Rogers, Rita Moreno, Nancy Wilson, Tessie O’Shea, David Wiffen, Don Covay, The Pointer Sisters, Abbe Lane, Charo, Sam the Sham and others. In the 1980s he and his wife Joy moved to Germany for a decade where he wrote articles and reviews about music while he performed in the German soul band Souled Out. It was in Germany he developed a relationship with The Beatles’ mentor, Tony Sheridan, and for a period of time became his manager and biographer. His working relationship lasted from 1987 to 1993. At the end of their association Sunseri dropped his interest in pursuing Sheridan’s biography, saying: “If Brian Epstein couldn’t do anything with Sheridan, what made me think I could?” The unfinished biography document’s Sheridan’s life from his birth on May 21, 1940 until 1993. Via BBC Liverpool presenter and author Spencer Leigh, Sunseri turned over his Sheridan manuscript to the City of Liverpool Archives’ Merseybeat Collection.
