American rhythm'n'blues, soul, funk and disco vocalist, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist, active since 1958. Born December 8, 1939 in Sunflower, Mississippi, USA, died 19th February 2025, in Chicago. Brother of [a=Billy Butler]. Former member of [a=The Impressions], long time associate of [a=Curtis Mayfield]. Co-writer of [a=Otis Redding]’s “I've Been Loving You Too Long”. He has duetted with [a=Betty Everett], [a=Brenda Lee Eager], [a=Thelma Houston] and [a=Gene Chandler]; collaborated with [a=Exuma] and [a=Jerry Peters] for the blaxploitation soundtracks “[Link]” and “[Link]”. He was also an American politician, serving as Commissioner for Cook County, Illinois, from 1985 until 2018.
