Biography
US hip-hop producer and emcee, based in Oakland, LA, born May 7, 1978. Native from Chicago, IL, he started making hip-hop beats since 1994. Co-founder of the record label [l=Anticon]. He has been a member of [a90148], [a=Themselves], [a=Subtle] and [a=13 & God]. Jel is primarily a producer and he is known for his use of the E-Mu Systems SP-1200 and Akai MPC2000XL samplers (among others) to create drum beats with little or no sequencing playing the drums live via the sampler pads. He has produced numerous tracks for underground hip hop artists such as [a=Deep Puddle Dynamics], [a=Atmosphere (2)], [a=Sole], [a=Sage Francis], and [a=Serengeti].
