From his early days rapping in Brooklyn, New York, to becoming one of the most profound hip-hop artists in the world, JAY-Z has left an enduring mark on music and popular culture. Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter was born on December 4, 1969, in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in the Marcy Projects. In 1994, the then up-and-coming rapper created his first independent record label, [l9433], under which he released his early works, including the breakthrough album, “Reasonable Doubt.” Shortly after, he opened his own recording studio, [l273435], in 2000. Having quickly gained notoriety and respect in the music industry, JAY-Z took on the role of President at [l4241] in 2004, maintaining the position until 2007. The following year, he co-founded [l286913] with [a3377953] (Chief Executive Officer), Jay Brown (Vice Chairman), Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith (President of A&R ), and Juan Perez (President of Roc Nation Sports). Established to empower artists and help them achieve long-standing careers, Roc Nation is now a globally revered entertainment organization that represents chart-topping artists like [a321128], [a3946211], [a38905], [a3460330], and [a7153956]. In 2015, JAY-Z became a co-owner of music streaming platform [l937873].
