Biography

Swedish composer, saxophonist and music producer, active in genres such as jazz, blues and soul, born June 7, 1967 in Nacka. He was educated at [l2130433] 1989–1991 and at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm 1999–2006. In 2004, he started the big band Jakob Norgren Big Band Splash, which released the albums Wide Meadow Soul (2005) and East Of The Arctic Circle (2007). The music was then a deliberately diverse mix of contemporary jazz, soul, blues and to some extent electronica. He has since concentrated his creations in three separate projects. Under the shortened name Big Band Splash, the albums Another Apple (2010) and Volume 5 (2017) were released, with a focus on soul, rhythm & blues and soul jazz. The Emersons were created, in collaboration with Herbert Nordlund, as a studio project for electro jazz. The music is often built as a collage of samples from his own big band recordings and new improvisations. In 2008, an EP was released with The Emersons, Swings & Roundabouts, and in 2014 the album Mollow was released. Since 2014, the big band has used the name Jakob Norgren Jazz Orchestra when playing contemporary jazz, and the album Pathfinding with Jonas Kullhammar as guest soloist was released in 2015. Norgren has produced his albums himself and released them on the record label [l1058314], which he started in 2005.
