Biography

Punk/hardcore trio who were formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, in January 1979. Hüsker Dü (which means "Do you remember" in Danish and Norwegian, but is actually spelt without diaereses) mixed pop and punk music and consisted of guitarist/vocalist Bob Mould, bassist Greg Norton and drummer/vocalist Grant Hart. They started out as a punk band before gravitating toward hardcore, then expanding into more melodic songs. After releasing seven albums, Hüsker Dü split in January 1988 due to the growing tensions between Mould and Hart (the two main songwriters in the band), Hart's alcohol and drug problems, and the suicide of the band's manager, David Savoy Jr. Mould went on to form [a=Sugar (5)], whilst Hart formed [a=Nova Mob] with both of them disbanding their respective groups in the mid-'90s and going on to only produce for their solo projects. Norton stepped away the music business for a number of years to become a restaurant owner but returned to performing again in the 2000s. Grant Hart died of cancer on September 14th 2017.

LYRICS

She gave her little child a name A ward of welfare she became And then one day she met a man Digging through the trash for cans Charity, chastity, prudence, and hope It was his aluminum That attracted her to him And quite a day there did unfold Turning garbage into gold Charity, chastity, prudence, and hope She took that money in a trunk And bought a bunch of worthless junk And now they're back where they began Digging through the trash for cans Charity, chastity, prudence, and hope
