Biography

Singer, songwriter and producer, born 2 August 1941 in Memphis, Tennessee, died 3 April 2003 in Memphis, Tennessee. Recorded a few singles in the early 1960s before joining the [l=Stax] record label as a songwriter, working with artists like [a=Sam & Dave] and The [a=Staple Singers]. In 1968 he teamed up with [a=Bettye Crutcher] and [a=Raymond Jackson] to form the [i]We Three[/i] songwriting team, best known for their 1968 hit [i]Who's Making Love[/i], recorded by [a=Johnnie Taylor]. He has a twin brother, songwriter [a=James Banks]. Banks worked for the label until its bankruptcy in 1976, co-writing songs like [i]If Loving You Is Wrong (I Don't Want To Be Right)[/i]. After the collapse of Stax records Banks remained active as a songwriter and producer and recorded one album in 1977 with his songwriting and producing partner [a473404].
