Biography

Hiroshi Yoshimura (22 October 1940 in Yokohama – 23 October 2003 in Tokyo) was a Japanese musician and composer, considered as a pioneer of Japanese 環境音楽 (Kankyō ongaku or ambient music). Yoshimura started his music career in 1972 by forming the computer music group 'Anonyme', and released his first album 'Music For Nine Post Cards' in 1982. In addition to his activities of solo performance and improvisational music, Yoshimura multiplied commissioning sound design productions for art venues (for instance Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Cultural History), corporations (for instance Shiseido Spring Cosmetics Day, Daiichi Hotel Tokyo Seafort, Yokohama International Stadium or Shu Uemura's make-up school), public services (for NHK and various cities including Yokohama, Kobe, Osaka or Tokyo). Graduated from from the Department of Fine Arts at Waseda University, Yoshimura served as a part-time lecturer in the Department of Music Design at Kunitachi College of Music and as a part-time lecturer in the Department of Industrial Design in the Faculty of Engineering at Chiba University, and was also active in workshops held by Museums (peculiarly for the Meguro Museum of Art).
