Biography

Grizzly Bear is a rock band based in Brooklyn, New York. Their music uses melody and ambience in conjunction with hazy-eyed choruses, whistles, piano, banjo, and several woodwind instruments. Grizzly Bear was originally the solo project of [a=Edward Droste] (vocals/guitar/omnichord/autoharp), who recorded his debut album [Link] at home. The record was originally meant for his friends, but it eventually circulated and got a proper release in 2004, this time with the help of [a=Chris Bear] (drums/vocals). A re-release with a bonus disc of remixes was issued in 2005. 2005 also saw the addition of the two other band members, [a=Chris Taylor (7)] (woodwinds/electronics/engineering/production) and [a=Daniel Rossen] (vocals/guitar). Playing as a four piece allowed the complexity of sound that was recorded on Horn of Plenty to be played live. The band toured throughout the year, playing songs off the first album as well as some of the new songs they were collectively writing that would make up [Link], their first release as a four piece, in 2006. A year later, the [Link], which featured cameos from Beirut, Atlas Sound, CSS and Band of Horses, arrived. For 2009's elaborate album [Link], the band collaborated with contemporary classical composer Nico Muhly, Beach House's Victoria Legrand, the Acme String Quartet and the Brooklyn Youth Choir. The album was a resounding success for the band, debuting at number eight on the Billboard 200 and making the band a ubiquitous entry on critical year-end lists. After a long break from touring Veckatimest, the band followed up three years later with it's 2012 release of [Link].

LYRICS

Those saints in lockstep
All crossed the wasteland
Forever gone
They'll hum and walk along
Plod ever onward
Across some tundra
The light is long
But it's not long before it's gone
Well fine

And it calls you back to mind
At once
At last
Oh goodness mercy mine
Soldier on
But please not so long this time

Too young and thoughtless
To calm your memories
I know it's wrong
Just give until it's gone

Some tired mantra
Calls ever onward
Shout it loud
Just make it up somehow
Well alright

And it'll call you back to mind
At once
At last
Oh goodness mercy mine
Soldier on
But please not so long
This time

Move on let's face
That all you trust is a cynical phrase
No time no place
When all you hope is that everything breaks
No wrong or right
Just do whatever you like
No wrong or right
Just do whatever you like
No wrong or right
Just do whatever you like
No bliss no light
Tell me it's all just a lie
You can't scare me none
I'm still the lucky one
