Biography

Erocktica (formerly known as Porn Rock) was an American glam metal/hard rock group from New York formed in 2000 by stripper/singer [a=Pink Snow]. Not to be confused with US hard rock cover band "Greg Thompson's Erocktica". The band described themselves as "an Anti-Censorship Erotic Theatrical Musical Free Expression Rock Extravaganza", "an evolution from clothed to non-clothed entertainment" & "the merging of SEX and ROCK 'n ROLL in one band!". Drawing inspiration from glam rock acts like KISS & Poison, as well as the 70s sexual revolution, the band performed anthemic pop metal with highly explicit lyrics and provocative visuals & theatrics (with lead singer Pink Snow performing bare-breasted, stripping fully naked & miming sex acts during the shows; comparable to the daring performances of the Belgian-American post-industrial/techno band [a=Lords of Acid] or the pagan British rock band [a=Rockbitch] in Europe). Formerly known as Porn Rock in the United States and Erocktica in Europe, the band changed their name officially to Erocktica as of January 2004. Their show combined rock 'n' roll music with a theatrical erotic show. They usually had two or more female dancers on stage, who could perform lap dances during one song and have sex with other each during the next. They were always very open to audience participation; engaging with the public being one of the most important aspects of their show. They invited people onstage for a naked versions of the Twister game and, every now and then, invited a lucky person on stage to receive a lap dance. The show usually got messy towards the end, when they played the song "Ice Cream" and brought canisters full of whipped cream onstage. As they chased one another, the dancers sprayed each other and the fortunate audience members with cream. Among the loyal fans, participants, and artists who followed the band were notorious celebrities like Moby, Gene Simmons of Kiss, Lemmy of Motorhead, and legendary Jayne County (rock's first openly transgender singer). The band also opened for such known hard rock acts as Warrant, LA Guns, Faster Pussycat, Poison’s CC Deville and Satanicide. Singer Pink Snow & bassist Shelly Lynn were the only members left from the first "Porn Again" album lineup. A third album called "Res-Erection" & their first live DVD, Second Cuming: Live in New York City were in the works in 2007 (while Pink was getting ready for graduate school) but never got released. Erocktika last performed in 2010. The band disbanded after frontwoman Pink Snow left New York City to pursue law school in her home state of Massachusetts.
