Biography

Taking their name from the J.G. Ballard novel that became a 1987 Steven Spielberg film, Australia's larger-than-life electro-glam-pop duo Empire of the Sun features [a138068]'s [a=Luke Steele] and Pnau's [a=Nick Littlemore]. Steele had previously worked with Pnau on "With You Forever," a track from the band's 2007 self-titled third album, and the pair enjoyed collaborating so much that they started their own project, drawing inspiration from the likes of [a=Phoenix] and [a=Daft Punk]. In fall 2008, Empire of the Sun released their debut album Walking On A Dream, which the musicians described as "a spiritual road movie." Featuring songs co-written by Pnau's other half, [a=Peter Mayes], the album went platinum in Australia. The Steele-led band performed live for the first time at the Parklife tour in September and October 2009, while Empire of the Sun garnered 11 ARIA award nominations including Album Of The Year and Single Of The Year. Live performance members include - Luke Steele – lead vocals, guitars, keyboards - Ian Ball – guitar - Olly Peacock – drums - Tony Mitolo - drums ( 2008-15) - Surahn Sidhu - guitar / bass / vocals ( 2008-15)

LYRICS

We were all born
To find a better way
We will make light
That should guide your way
We will light fires
To show you the way home
Darling, take a chance with me

Gotta reach out when you feel the pain
Gotta reach deep to find the words to say
Open your heart and we'll open our arms
Darling, we'll take care of you

Every dad is somebody's son
Freedom in the water
Ocean with my daughter
Every dad is somebody's son
Freedom in the water
Ocean with my daughter

Make up your sound
Go on and turn it up
Do us all proud and we'll listen up
Grow it on your own and share all your wealth
With all of humanity

Every dad is somebody's son
Freedom in the water
Ocean with my daughter
Every dad is somebody's son
Freedom in the water
Ocean with my daughter

From Montana to Nebraska to the ocean
From never-ending roads to the West Coast
Out of California down to Mexico
In the wild with you

Do what you do and don't give up
Say what you feel and be straight up
Only do good, don't do bad
You are the queen, you make it with me

Every dad is somebody's son
Freedom in the water
Ocean with my daughter
Every dad is somebody's son
Freedom in the water
Ocean with my daughter

From Montana to Nebraska to the ocean
From never-ending roads to the West Coast
Out of California down to Mexico
In the wild with you
