Biography
American Hip-Hop DJ, Turntablist & Producer, born in Washington D.C., currently based in Los Angeles, California, USA. Faust started his DJ and production journey in 1985 at the age of 13. "In my household I was exposed to everything from Salsa, Merengue and Rock to Jazz, Folk and Blues, I spent countless years lost in my parents record collection. I discovered Hip Hop and the DJ at around age 10, I was captivated and they became my inevitable gateway to self expression. I got my first DJ setup at age 13 and never looked back. My father was in the ARMY and we moved all over. We landed in New Jersey around 1987, that's where I was exposed to golden era New York radio. I spent all week shifting through channels listening to [a31518], [a133237], [a21125], [a13873] via (WBLS), [a14295], [a55740], the list is endless. I would record the shows on tape cassettes and spend all week trying to recreate the techniques I heard. I've always considered myself as a student, i'm very open minded when it comes to audio, for me discovering sounds is a like finding portals to new dimensions and i'm always expanding my horizons." Much like his mythological philosopher-magician namesake, DJ Faust is ahead of the learning curve. In 1998, Faust made history with the release of the first full-length, all-scratching album in history, the critically lauded [r600807]. Since then he has produced countless albums, EPs and singles as a solo artist, and alongside his partner [a53402] as Faust & Shortee, [a23911] and later, the bass music outfit Urban Assault. The duo has continuously cranked out a steady stream of releases over the years covering a gamut of styles, from D&B to Drumstep, Dubstep to Electro, and more. In 2006 Faust & Shortee launched their first labels, [l294089] and [l819508] with a rapid string of releases for fuel, covering everything from D&B, Electro, Dubstep, Drumstep, Glitch Hop, Trap, Hop Hop, Battle Tools and more.
