Biography

American singer, actress and TV show host, born 12 December 1940 in East Orange, New Jersey, USA. Mother of singer [a246500] and producer [a773561]. Sister of [a=Dee Dee Warwick]; niece of [a=Cissy Houston]; cousin of [a=Whitney Houston], [a827132] and [a2624430]. Married twice to drummer/actor [a483699] from 1965-1975. Changed her artist name from "Warrick" to "Warwick" because her name was misspelled on the labels of her hit record "Don't Make Me Over". (She also went by "Warwicke" during the early 1970s) Warwick ranks among the 40 biggest hit makers between 1955 and 1999, based on her chart history on Billboard's Hot 100 pop singles chart. She is one of the most-charted female vocalists of all time, with 56 of her singles making the Hot 100 between 1962 and 1998 (12 of them Top Ten), and 80 singles in total – either solo or collaboratively – making the Hot 100, R&B and/or adult contemporary charts. Notable songs include "Walk On By", "Alfie", "You're Gonna Need Me", "That's What Friends are For", and "I'll Never Love This Way Again"

LYRICS

Do you know the way to San Jose
I've been away so long
I may go wrong and lose my way
Do you know the way to San Jose
I'm goin' back to find
Some peace of mind in San Jose

LA is a great big freeway
Put a hundred down and buy a car
In a week, maybe two, they'll make you a star
Weeks turn into years, how quick they pass
And all the stars that never were
Are parkin' cars and pumpin' gas

You can really breathe in San Jose
They've got a lot of space
There'll be a place where I can stay
I was born and raised in San Jose
I'm goin' back to find
Some peace of mind in San Jose

Fame and fortune is a magnet
It can pull you far away from home
With a dream in your heart you're never alone
Dreams turn into dust and blow away
And there you are without a friend
You pack your car and ride away

I've got lots of friends in San Jose
Do you know the way to San Jose

Oh, LA is a great big freeway
Put a hundred down and buy a car
In a week, maybe two, they'll make you a star
Weeks turn into years, how quick they pass
And all the stars that never were
Are parkin' cars and pumpin' gas

I've got lots of friends in San Jose, oh...oh...
Do you know the way to San Jose, mmm...mmm...
Can't wait to get back to San Jose
