Biography

American soul/funk/jazz/disco band. Formed in 1975 in Los Angeles, California, USA, led by brothers [a=George Johnson] and [a=Louis Johnson]. Initially their line-up also included their cousin [a=Alex Weir]. They both started their careers as backing musicians of [a=Bobby Womack], [a=Billy Preston], et al., before later going it alone under the guidance of producer [a=Quincy Jones], who brought them to prominence using them on his own album "[Link]" (1975). They recorded eight albums between 1976 and 1988, and are most famous for their disco smash "[Link]" (1980), and their cover of the [a=Shuggie Otis] classic "[Link]" (1977).
