Biography

Jamaican reggae and dancehall duo from Portmore, Saint Catherine Parish Although often thought of as brothers the pair are unrelated. In 1986, they both entered the Tastee Talent Contest, which Brian won and Tony came second. Admiring each other's skills, the two young men decided to form a vocal team. Brian and Patrick's initial hook-up was with [a=Mikey Bennett] at [a=King Jammy]'s studio and their very first harmony was for [a=Johnny Osbourne]. It was around this time that they took the stage name 'Brian and Tony Gold.' In 1987, they had their first taste of Jamaican fame with the song "Ebony Eyes" on the Red Rock label. This was quickly followed by "What's Your Name" and "Bull's Eye," both for Jammy, and "Sweet Baby" on [a=Bobby Digital]'s imprint. When Mikey Bennett formed his own label, Brian and Tony came to be produced by [a=The Two Friends Crew], issuing "Poison" in combination with [a=Dennis Brown] and Brian and Tony's own "Can You," both of which topped Jamaica's reggae charts. This led to a deal with Pow Wow Records in New York City and were featured on the Pow Wow album GREENLIGHT. During this time, the duo made several appearances with Dennis Brown on 1990's Reggae Sunsplash US Tour. But their big success came with the tune "Number Two" with [a=Terror Fabulous] and then a "Compliments On Your Kiss," sung in combination with [a=Red Dragon]. Produced by [a=Sly & Robbie] for Island Records, "Compliments" was number two on the British Pop charts for four weeks. This let to several appearances on the Top of the Pops television program as well as Brian and Tony's first music video. Since then they've been the first choice for reggae artists looking for some sweet harmonies, and have worked extensively with [a=Maxi Priest], [a=Shabba Ranks], [a=Mad Cobra] [a=Tiger], [a=Buju Banton], [a=Chaka Demus & Pliers] to name a few They have appeared on every [a=Shaggy] album since 1995, have been on every tour over the same period, and are signed to his [l=Big Yard Music Group Ltd.] label
