Biography

Hard-edged US pop band founded by former [a=Throwing Muses] member Tanya Donelly, following her short stint with [a=The Breeders]. Formed in 1991 by Tanya with fellow ex-Muse Fred Abong and brothers Chris and Tom Gorman, they achieved strong initial success in both the UK and US indie/alternative scenes. Twice Grammy-nominated in the early 1990s. Abong left the band during the recording of their debut, Star, and was replaced by Gail Greenwood on bass. The subsequent tour boosted their popularity, however, their second album, King, which was expected to build on the success of its predecessor, wasn't as well received. Donelly disbanded Belly in 1996 and released her first solo material at the end of the year. In February 2016, Belly announced their reunion for live shows, as well as plans to record new material. The band launched a PledgeMusic campaign, and released their third album, Dove, on 3 May 2018.

LYRICS

Mm mm, Mm mm, Mm mm, Mm mm, Mm mm, Mm mm, Mm mm, Oh.
Now I've lost the plot.
I'm not the hero I could be,
But not the dog I was.
Kind of common cry,
Kind of common living lie.
Color my fast fading heart.
People laugh at anything,
And things just fall apart.
Kind of common cry,
Kind of common living lie.
You know the shape my breath will take before I let it out.
Stand like you did when I was beauty-marked in your eyes.
Now they'll sleep on lies.
Now eyes burn circles in the dark,
And when the mirror talks to me,
I listen with my heart.
Kind of common cry,
Kind of common living lie.
You know the shape my breath will take before I let it out.
Stand like you did when I was beauty-marked in your eyes.
Now they'll sleep all right.
You know the shape my breath will take before I let it out.
Stand like you did when I was beauty-marked in your eyes.
Stand like you did when I was beauty-marked in your eyes.
One common cry do do do do.
One common cry do do do do.
One common cry do do do do.
One common cry do do do do oh-ooo
