Biography

American-born Brazilian popular singer, born 12 May 1966, New York City. She is the daughter of [a346760] and [a318934], Bebel was born in New York City, where her parents were living at the time. She started singing at an early age, doing backing vocals on albums for children. After a few attempts as a solo artist in Brazil in the 1980s, she wrote songs with [a336607] and other pop/rockers, managing to put out an EP through Warner (which featured the hits "Mais Feliz" and "Eu Preciso Dizer Que Te Amo"). Bebel moved to New York City in 1991. Alternating between the US and UK, she has worked with [a3918], [a10293] and DJ [a10234] (former [a4119] member), always trying to blend bossa nova into fresh musical concepts. Her first solo album, "Tanto Tempo", was released in 2000 on [l794]. It was produced by Yugoslavian born Brazilian [a16823], who died shortly before the release of the CD. There is a misconception that Bebel is the daughter of [a8699]. Astrud was briefly married to Bebel's father [a346760] (1959-1964), before Bebel was born (1966), that's why the share the same surname.

LYRICS

If I could name
A fruit for you
It would be jabuticaba
Blue, black and small
On the outside
And soft and sweet within

My favourite memory
Was under that tree
That's been there since
I was three
Now I would like to
Sing for you
My jabuticaba song

Isn't she lovely
Like purple rain
Walking on sunshine with you
(over the rainbow)
Quiet nights, quiet stars
It's summertime
Quiet nights, quiet stars and you

If I could name
A tree for you
It would be
Jabuticaba
Under the shade
Of the cool green leaves
It all comes back to me

So when that taste
Reminds you
You know just where
To find me
And now I would like to sing for you
My jabuticaba song
Jabuticaba tree
