Biography

Adrianne Lenker (born July 9, 1991) is a singer-songwriter from Indianapolis, Indiana best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist of Big Thief, as well as her own solo work. After moving to Minnesota with her family at a young age, Adrianne began learning guitar and writing her first songs. She dedicated her life to music throughout her teens, even playing gigs and releasing solo material. In 2014, Adrianne relocated to Brooklyn, New York on her own where she connected with Buck Meek, and the two began performing as a duo. That same year, she self-released her first, proper solo album titled "Hours Were the Birds." In 2015, her and Buck formed the folk rock band Big Thief. In October 2018, Adrianne’s second solo record "abysskiss" was released through Saddle Creek Records. In 2020, she signed to 4AD and released a double album, "songs and instrumentals," later that year.

LYRICS

Two
And one, two, three, four
You and I both know
There is nothing more to say
Chances shutter shining eyes
And turn to face away

Leaning on the window sill
You could write me someday and I think you will
We could see the sadness as a gift and still
Feel too heavy to hold

Snow falling
Try to keep from calling
Watch the spring turn to winter
Fireflies all frozen

The seasons go so fast
Thinking that this one was gonna last
Maybe the question was too much to ask

Searching for your eyes
All I see are blue skies
And that old man beats his crooked cane
It's time to let go

Leaning on the window sill
You could write me someday and I bet you will
We could see the sadness as a gift and still
The seasons go so fast
Thinking that this one was gonna last
Maybe the question was too much to ask

You and I could see
Into the same eternity
Every second brimming with a majesty

Kiss so sweet, so fine
You could hear the music inside my mind
And you showed me a place, I'll find
Even when I'm old
Leaning on the window sill
You could write me someday and I hope you will
We could see the sadness as a gift and still
